Make a Donation Today
The McDonough Community Garden is made possible via the generous support of people like you. We work very hard to create a sustainable foodscape and the economic support you provide makes this goal possible. By donating today you are helping us make fresh organic fruits and vegetables accessible to the community and also helping to develop the site into an aesthetically appealing edible landscape. We are currently working to raise 3500.00 for the garden.
Your contribution will fund the 2013 development of McDonough Community Garden allowing us to install 15 more raised beds, water pumps and further enhance the landscape with native Virginia plants. Our goal is to have the site’s infrastructure totally complete by the June of 2013.
The funding request will pay for three solar powered water pumps valued at 1400.00 (450.00 a piece) . One water pump will be used to automate our 8 x 6 greenhouse watering system and the other two will be used to automate the remaining raised beds we have on the site.
The funding request will pay for a tool shed to hold all our precious garden tools. Wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, trowels, hammers, nails, lawnmowers, hoes, just gardening supplies in general need a place to stay safe from the weather and from sprouting wings to fly away to new owners without our foreknowledge. We anticipate the cost for tools and a shed to run us about 1000.00 with the shed costing about 600.00 and the tools to accommodate our workdays being an additional 400.00.
The funding request also includes lumber and soil for an additional 15 raised beds. For 8 cubic yards of quality topsoil/compost blend we will end up paying about 400.00 and additional 200 will go to wood to build the beds. Once we add the additional 15 we will have 30 beds on site for the community to use.
The remaining 500.00 of the funding request will be reserved for purchase of landscaping plants such as fruit bushes, trees, seeds and flowers for further enhancement of the site.
